Howdy readers, long time - no new piece. Hope you enjoyed the recap of one of my favourite pieces.
Today’s topic is something that I talk about often in sessions, especially at this time of year - How do you treat yourself on holidays :)
I often notice an impulse toward consumerism not only with things (hello Temu) but also with holidays.
And I don’t mean the obvious - we must do all the things that other people I admire do so that we feel good about ourselves and not left out.
I mostly mean the consumerism on your spent energy:
I go on holiday and I MUST do everything - sit on the beach all day even though I know how harmful it is.
Go to a big city and see ALL THE MUST SEES - no matter how tiresome that is.
Go to cities and SEE ALL THE MUSEUMS; otherwise, I will feel like I lost time.
And I don’t mean the general preference toward one type of vacation or the other - it’s the way that we look at vacations as opportunities to put in everything we haven’t done all year.
All the fun, the eating, the exploring.
That is why the dreaded after-holiday blues appear - that’s when you come back home the evening before you have to return to work and you feel like crying.
What if you would pace yourself? What if you would find your chill mode button and push it once in a while?
What if you enjoy and be present in the moment with anything that shows up?
What if sitting in a park is all you need?
What if your kids would be happy just following squirrels in the park?
Wherever you are, whatever you are doing, I hope you find your chill button and your kindness in your holiday.
See you in September!
